What is Alliance One?

Many people with matters pending in San Diego traffic court find themselves dealing with an unknown agency called Alliance One. You may have received letters from Alliance One and wondered who they are and why your court matter is being handled by them. Alliance One is a receivables company that currently has the contract to be the collection agency for the San Diego Superior Court.  While they have employees and a presence at every traffic court in San Diego County, Alliance one is a private company, and knows very little about court procedure.

Generally speaking folks become acquainted with  Alliance Once after they fail to appear on their traffic matter, or fail to pay their fine in a timely manner. When you fail to appear in court on a traffic violation your case will be handed off to Alliance One for collections after a certain period of time passes.

You may have even received a letter from Alliance One indicating that you owe them money.  The letter normally indicates you need to pay X amount of money to resolve your traffic matter.  However, simply paying the amount owed is not always a good idea –  and this is particularly true when your license is suspended.  Often times Alliance One will indicate that you must pay.  Don’t listen, it’s not true.  Simply failing to appear or pay your fine does not deprive you of your right to a trial, or access to the court to have your case considered, so be careful.

Alliance One knows very little about your case, and paying them will require you to enter a plea of guilty to all allegations, including the failure to appear, and will deprive you of the chance of having your case dismissed.  Moreover, if your license has been suspended as a result of your failure to appear, you will have to pay the full amount before your license will be reinstated, and, unlike the court, Alliance One will not immediately notify the DMV about your payment.  It may take Alliance One weeks to indicate to the DMV that your traffic case has been resolved.  If you contact a San Diego traffic attorney, your case can be set for trial and your license immediately unsuspended.

Brief Recap of who/what Alliance One is?

  • They are a private collection company hired to handle collections for all San Diego  County Traffic Courts
  • They normally become involved in your matter after you have failed to appear for a court date or pay your fine
  • They know very little about your case
  • Their letters are often misleading in that they strongly imply you no longer have the right to a trial or access to the court system to resolve your traffic matter – that is not true they just don’t make as much money if you go back to court.

If you have a case in collections with Alliance One you should contact a San Diego traffic attorney.  A traffic ticket lawyer may be able to save you a lot of time and money, and may prevent your credit from being blemished unnecessarily.  That’s right; if you simply pay Alliance One you are also risking your credit.  Hire a competent San Diego traffic lawyer to sort your traffic violation out, and you may have your case pulled back from Alliance One, saving your wallet, and your credit.
